THE SCREAM

I’ve always wondered about the noise

we tease a lot about ‘boys toys’

but I think its much more than that.

Why does it all sound so loud,

the chatter and the clatterthe bang and the blast?

Why do we fill the water, the land, and the skies

with noise that sounds as if the gods might die?

Does it begin with a child’s first scream
awakened from a prenatal dream?
I am here, I have become.
’Is there any other way we could have gone?
could we have followed any other song?

SIMPLE THINGS

My days are now defined

by sets of simple things

by forms and patterns

that repeat themselves

that say that I am here.
